Project

Hotel Haven is a playful and sympathetic hotel complex in the heart of Helsinki, loved by the most demanding visitors – even the crown princess Victoria of Sweden and her family are known to stay in Haven during their visits in Helsinki. Puroplan has designed both the original hotel and the new annex opened in January 2017.

Haven represents continental style and luxury as the guiding idea of the project was to bring together the designers’ best hotel experiences from Europe and Asia. Already in the lobby one can enjoy the warmth coming from the fireplace and discover the delightful small details inspired by the French countryside. From decorative lights to the lounge-styled bar, everything exudes casual elegance. However, the spirit of the hotel is best sensed in the spacious and fresh rooms decorated with the highest quality fabrics and materials.

The project also included the courtyard restaurant Havis, which was integrated to the hotel with matching awnings covering the façade. The most challenging part of the project was the passage between the streets of Eteläranta and Unioninkatu: The alley known as Viktor Ekin kuja was situated in the middle of the block and it had to be kept as an official route. In the process old staircases and structures were demolished, and a deck was built across the street to connect the lobby and reception area with the hotel bar. Viktor Ekin kuja received a nomination for the “Rakentamisen ruusu” award by the city of Helsinki – it was mentioned as the only street in Helsinki that is heated and illuminated with a fireplace.

Puroplan was responsible for the project’s main, architectural and interior design.
