Project

The old town hall of Rovaniemi received a new life in the hands of Puroplan when the building was repurposed as a hotel in a bold design project. In the renovation, the street-level office space was split into retail premises and the hotel was built in the upper floors of the house. Arctic Light hotel offers 57 spacious rooms and suites, quality restaurant and a homely lounge.

The old Kauppalantalo was built in 1949 and as a typical example of post-war construction it is a listed building. During the project, the historic City Council meeting room was restored to its original splendor and the old railings and decorations throughout the building were carefully repaired to honour the history of the city.

Today, behind the restored façade, the family-run Arctic Light Hotel is nothing but conventional. The hotel is a tribute to the wilderness and nightless light of Lapland. Tourists seeking for northern exoticisim will not be disappointed as Arctic Light charms travellers with striking images and brave material choices, creating a truly unique hotel experience.

Puroplan was responsible for the project’s main, architectural and interior design.
